Internships and Funding
Part of the mission of the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth is helping students navigate their career journeys. In addition to our summer research opportunities, the Institute offers two programs supporting external summer internships.
Climate and Growth Internship Program
The Institute’s Climate and Growth Internship Program matches highly motivated students with employers offering substantive, skill-building internships in the fields of climate and energy designed to foster professional growth and industry-relevant skills.
These internships are full time and may be conducted in person or virtually during the summer term (approximately 10 weeks). Each intern is paired with a designated supervisor who provides consistent guidance, mentorship, and structured performance feedback.
Applications will open on a rolling basis for Summer 2026. To stay up to date on current openings, sign up for our weekly student newsletter.
To share an opportunity or for more information, please contact Katie Fassbinder at katief@uchicago.edu.
Climate and Growth Fund
The Institute’s Climate and Growth Fund allows University of Chicago students who have independently secured an unpaid, external summer internship related to topics in energy, the environment and/or climate change with the opportunity to apply for a stipend.
Students may receive a stipend of $5,000 from The Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth for a selected, 10-week internship. Chosen candidates will be required to provide a summary of their experience and how it was beneficial to their studies following the internship.
This program is supported by the Polsky Energy Transition Leadership Academy.
Application for Summer 2026 are not yet open. To stay up to date on the 2026 application cycle, sign up for our weekly student newsletter.
