The Institute breaks down traditional academic boundaries across the University of Chicago community. One way it does this is by supporting early-stage and interdisciplinary research across the University through five funds: the Seed Fund, Venture Fund, CSEi Seed Grants, CSEi Faculty Grants, and the HKU-UChicago Collaborative Sustainability and Climate Research Fund.

Seed and Venture Funds

The Institute’s Seed Fund fosters the advancement of early-stage research that explores a wide range of climate and energy topics, while the Venture Fund fosters an ecosystem of scholars from across UChicago around a central challenge to conduct more advanced research.

CSEi Seed and Faculty Grants

CSEi Seed and Faculty Grants are awarded based on research merit and anticipated contribution to building the climate systems engineering research cluster.

HKU-UChicago Collaborative Sustainability and Climate Research Fund

The fund supports collaborative research between Hong Kong’s HKU Jockey Club Enterprise Sustainability Global Research Institute and the University of Chicago on key topics related to sustainability and climate.
