“The Climate Fellows Program gave me valuable insight into the climate challenge faced by Global South countries like India. In particular, the lectures demonstrated that India and its developing peers will have to economically grow in a less carbon-intensive manner than the West if they seek to boost their citizens’ quality of life while combatting climate change. Moreover, the Global South will have to do so while bearing the brunt of the climate crisis’ impacts (which have largely been caused by Western emissions). Assignments like the transportation exercise (where we had to travel to an assigned location in Ahmedabad using public transport) gave me some perspective on the infrastructural challenges faced by Indian cities. In addition, visits to firms and organizations like the renewable energy company ReNew showed me the momentum present in the Indian energy sector and in the Indian economy in general.”
