Emissions Market Accelerator
The Emissions Market Accelerator (EMA) helps governments in the Global South design, build and implement cap-and-trade markets for air, greenhouse gas and water pollution—with the goal to benefit 1 billion people by 2030. Such markets are a cost-effective solution to reduce emissions and foster economic growth because their flexible, transparent approach allows for stronger compliance and greater emissions reductions at a lower cost. The EMA is a joint initiative of the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC) and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), two of the world’s leading research and policy implementation organizations.
