Mentor: Dorian Abbot, Professor, Geophysical Sciences

Constantino-Daniel Boscu is a first-year BS student in Computational and Applied Mathematics (CAAM). He is deeply interested in modeling extreme weather events using generative machine learning algorithms and how such models can be implemented in the real world. He served as a Research Assistant under Professor Dorian Abbot, developing AI emulators for the stratospheric polar vortex with Variational Auto-Encoders (VAE) in the upper atmosphere.

“This fellowship enabled me to see what happens inside academia, something that students only get to see late in their undergraduate years or even masters. As such, I can now say for certain that, for the upcoming years, I will be preparing myself for PhD admissions in mathematical climate modeling!”
