Carolina Martins Torres Santos is a second-year in the College, from Portugal pursuing a double major in Biological Sciences and Romance Languages and Literatures. She works for a cancer immunology laboratory, serves on the board of the French Club, and is a member of both the Global Health Scholars and Beyond the Clinic cohorts. Carolina’s interests focus on the intersection of climate policy and human health. She attended Climate Week NYC 2025 as part of the Institute’s first student cohort.
“At the crossroads of the UN General Assembly and the path to COP30, Climate Week held urgency and possibility. I was struck by the way stubborn knots of climate policy were met with cautious, but determined optimism from climate investors or smallholder farmers. Thank you to the Institute for fostering this space where UChicago could engage in dialogue with the political and financial spheres!”
