Eugene McCarty is a third-year undergraduate student majoring in Molecular Engineering and Economics (College ’26). This summer, he worked as a Research Intern at the Mansueto Institute for Urban Innovation, where he analyzed energy usage in lab buildings on the University of Chicago campus. Next summer, he will be doing consulting, and he also is an active member of the Sustainable Investing Group and the University Symphony Orchestra on campus. He is most interested in the energy transition, especially novel technologies in the battery and energy storage space, and he hopes to learn more about innovations in the field and whether policy makers are aware of the importance of energy storage in the fight against climate change at COP29.
