William Owens is an undergraduate student of the University of Chicago. He is double majoring in Business Economics and Mathematics (’25). His career focus is on investing in renewable energy generation and surrounding infrastructure, such as transmission facilities or interconnect queues. While at UChicago, his two main professional experiences have been at Clearvision Ventures, a venture capital focusing on the cross-section between sustainable software and infrastructure, and at Kimmeridge’s Carbon solutions team, a private equity branching out from traditional O&G solutions to picks-and-shovels plays and minority investments within renewable technologies. His upcoming experience immediately post-grad is an internship under the finance team at a transmission facility developer, Viridon, serving mainly the NYISO and CAISO regions and exploring opportunities within ERCOT as a prior NextEra team.
Owens attended CERAWeek 2025 as a student delegate. “I was not surprised by the wealth of knowledge presented at the conference,” he said. “I learned about many new technologies and innovations related to carbon capture, A.I optimizations of the grid, and the technical progress of solar + BESS. I also absorbed the expertise and wealth of knowledge from the experienced panelists, whether they be leadership at traditional O&G companies, renewable developers, utility companies, or private market investors.”
