Mark is a Professor of Organismal Biology and Anatomy, a member of the Committee on Evolutionary Biology at the University of Chicago, a Research Associate in Zoology at the Field Museum of Natural History, and the Director of Graduate Studies for the Integrative Biology program at UChicago. Mark’s research program focuses on the phylogenetics (family tree) of marine fishes, the impacts of climate change on coral reefs and the conservation of coral reef fishes, the biogeography of reef fishes and their likely sensitivity to coral bleaching, the biomechanics of feeding, locomotion and respiration in animals ranging from insects to fishes to birds, and the synthesis of evolutionary trees with biomechanical and ecological traits to better understand evolutionary history.
