Eric Fang is a fourth-year undergraduate (College ’25) from the California Bay Area majoring in business economics and public policy with a specialization in energy. On campus, he is the co-Head of Professional Development for UChicago’s Energy & Climate Club (ECC), where he works to organize energy-related speaker events and office visits for club members. Professionally, Eric has previously interned for Constellation Energy’s Offsite Renewables (CORe+) team and BP’s Low Carbon Energy trading team. He attended COP29 to learn more about renewable energy development and finance, as well as how these topics are folded into international diplomacy.

“Attending COP29 was an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience that I am endlessly grateful to the University for the opportunity to attend. I was able to hear and learn from a massive range of individuals, organizations, companies, and nations about their efforts to combat global warming, and I now appreciate the complexity associated with balancing the desires and limitations of hundreds of nations. Despite the long and difficult process associated with negotiations, I am optimistic about the potential for positive change.”
