Dr. Purnendu Chatterjee, Founder and Chairman of The Chatterjee Group (TCG), began his career as a Partner at McKinsey & Company, advising Fortune 500 firms on strategy and operations.
Under Dr. Chatterjee’s leadership, TCG has cultivated over three decades of successful private equity transactions, including leveraged acquisitions and growth capital investments across India and beyond. His strategic foresight has positioned TCG as a key player in sectors such as Petrochemicals, IT, Financial Services, Pharmaceuticals, Engineering, and Real Estate.
A strong advocate for education and innovation, Dr. Chatterjee is a founding member of the Indian School of Business and the Advanced VLSI Design Laboratory at IIT Kharagpur. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the College of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and is a trustee of The Asia Society.
In 2019, Dr. Chatterjee furthered his commitment to scientific advancement by establishing TCG CREST—a not-for-profit research university designed to harness India’s scientific potential through global academic collaboration.
Dr. Chatterjee holds a B.Tech from IIT Kharagpur and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering & Operations Research from UC Berkeley.
