Our climate mission
Tradewater’s mission is to permanently eliminate superpollutants and bend the curve on global
warming as quickly as possible.
Why is this work important?
Targeting superpollutants offers one of the fastest, most cost-effective climate strategies
available today. These non-CO₂ gases drive nearly half of all human-caused warming, are
exponentially more potent than CO₂, and cannot be removed from the atmosphere once
released. Cutting halocarbons and methane delivers bigger and faster climate benefits than CO₂
reductions alone. When combined, CO₂ and non-CO₂ mitigation can generate up to seven times
the temperature benefit by 2050 compared to CO₂ action alone. Leading models – from MIT to
the IPCC – agree that tackling superpollutants is essential to any credible net-zero pathway.
How we solve it
Tradewater tackles two of the most dangerous categories of non-CO₂ gases – halocarbons and
methane. We identify, collect, and permanently destroy refrigerants in old appliances and
excess halon gases in canisters, and prevent methane from actively leaking oil and gas wells.
These actions reduce potent greenhouse gases, protect the ozone layer, and generate highintegrity carbon credits that fund and expand our mission.
