Lena Maghraoui is a Master of Science student in Climate and Energy Policy at the Harris School of Public Policy. Before Harris, she earned a B.S. in environmental science at the University of Chicago and worked in international climate change adaptation, with a focus on gender equality and social inclusion and nature-based solutions. Lena’s interests lie in the application of economic and data analysis to aid underrepresented communities in accessing clean air and water, secure equitable and just climate change adaptation and mitigation, and ensure accountability for environmental degradation.

As a Bartlett Fellow under Professor Kiran Chawla, Lena will contribute to study of climate migration within the United States, including how policy frameworks can enable better outcomes for those who leave and those who stay.

“I hope to build a career in environmental law, using data and quantitative analysis in legal action and advocacy to advance the public interest. Harris offers me the opportunity to develop skills in modeling, spatial analysis, and economic methods to quantify and predict the impacts of climate change and energy policies and demonstrate causal linkages, which will be a cornerstone of my ability to advance environmental justice through the law.”
