Battery costs have fallen more than 90 percent in the last fifteen years, and grid-scale storage is deploying faster than almost anyone predicted. But the next chapter of the battery story is still being written. AI and advanced computation may accelerate how we discover and manufacture better batteries, but critical mineral supply chains could become a bottleneck if we don’t move next-generation chemistries like iron-air and sodium-ion from the lab to the grid. As the US pushes to build a domestic battery supply chain, do we have what it takes to compete?
