The Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth is proud to award 17 grants to University of Chicago scholars to support early-stage research with the potential to advance society’s understanding of the climate and growth challenge. The winning projects were selected through a competitive process that attracted proposals from researchers across disciplines, including experts applying their knowledge and fresh perspective to the climate challenge for the first time.
The 17 awardees, coming from seven different departments and schools, will use their diversity of expertise to tackle the multilayered challenge. Their experience draws from engineering, economics, biological sciences, geophysical sciences, ecology, public policy, and the humanities. The grantees also include two PhD students, demonstrating how the Seed Fund supports the next generation of researchers.
“Addressing the climate and growth challenge demands new ideas from all disciplines. Through the Seed Fund, the Institute’s work is an all of University effort to find the solutions that the world urgently needs,” says Michael Greenstone, the Milton Friedman Distinguished Service Professor in Economics and director of the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth. “These projects embody the intellectual rigor and creativity that define the University of Chicago, where researchers are empowered to follow ideas wherever they lead. We look forward to helping these scholars share what they discover, build new collaborations, and scale their ideas into solutions that can make meaningful impacts.”
