Title: Infrastructure, Grid, and Policy: When We Mention EV Charging Challenges in the States

The adoption of EVs in the States has been away from smooth sailing. Tightening subsidies, persistent infrastructure gaps, and fluctuating consumer confidence have all cast a shadow of uncertainty over the pace of electrification. However, regardless of the speed of adoption, the structural strain on the distribution system is already becoming apparent. This presentation will discuss the challenges of EV charging in the States, with a specific focus on analyzing the mounting stress that it places on distribution-level power grids, and its implications for utility planning and long-term infrastructure investment.

Lunch is provided. Open to UChicago students only.
