Tommaso Calcagno is a first-year Master in Finance student at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business (’25) and holds a Bachelor of Science in International Economics and Management from Bocconi University. Before Booth, he gained experience in equity analysis and financial strategy at Hadron Capital and the Mediterranean Shipping Company. Passionate about sustainable finance, he has competed in the Turner Impact Portfolio Challenge and the Kellogg-Morgan Stanley Sustainable Investing Challenge. Fluent in Italian and English, he writes on sustainable finance and climate technology. Tommasco is particularly interested in cleantech financing and energy policy and plans to pursue a career in financial advisory for energy development.

Calcagno attended CERAWeek 2025 as a student delegate with the Institute.

“At CERAWeek, I was struck by the business community’s strong demand for regulatory stability. Regardless of politics, businesses thrive on predictable regulations, especially in heavily regulated sectors like energy. I also learned that energy startups rely heavily on corporate partners for funding and industry expertise, given the sector’s capital intensity and regulatory complexity. These insights, along with many others from Houston, will shape how I approach finance and entrepreneurship at Booth—allowing me to connect theory with real-world dynamics and better understand the challenges and opportunities in the energy industry,” Calcagno said.
