Tatjana (Tati) Washington is a PhD candidate in the Evolutionary Biology department at the University of Chicago. Her research has a strong focus on clean energy technologies, U.S. and international energy policies, and environmental justice. With a specialized interest at the intersection of research, business, and policy, Tati spends most of her time analyzing market trends and funding flows to support the transition to a low-carbon, climate-friendly future. She uses her quantitative, data-driven insights and innovative solutions as a powerful form of environmental advocacy.
Washington won third place in the 2026 Climate Case Competition with team CERAWork. She is also a writer for the University of Chicago Sustainability Dialogue, where she also serves as Events & Partnerships Coordinator. She previously attended CERAWeek with the Institute in 2026.
“I enjoyed my time at CERAWeek. I came into the conference expecting a heavier focus on traditional energy priorities, so I was honestly surprised by how much time and attention was being given to sustainability and reducing environmental impact. It felt genuine. I was also surprised by how few scientists were present. Most speakers were in leadership roles and were very strong communicators, which made me realize how important it is to translate complex science for broader audiences.”
