Takuto is an MBA candidate with a professional background spanning finance, energy systems, and economic diplomacy. Before joining Chicago Booth, he conducted strategic research on energy markets at a bank, supporting hundreds of millions of dollars in financing decisions related to the energy transition. He also served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was involved in international economic negotiations.
Takuto is particularly interested in energy system reliability, climate finance, and supporting innovation. He contributes to the Sustainability Dialogue by bringing analytical depth, a cross‑sector perspective, and a global lens to discussions on the future of energy and sustainable systems.
“I attended sessions covering a wide range of topics, but a lot of panelists emphasized the necessity of securing financing. The expansion of data centers, nuclear power, and hydrogen supply, as well as the development of critical mineral supply chains independent of China, all of these efforts will not go well without money. I also learned that in some of these areas, it is difficult to make bankable project structures due to lack of offtakers or high price volatility. In such cases, collaboration between governments and financial institutions can serve as an effective solution. Although I have a finance background, this experience reinforced my recognition that finance is imperative in economic activities.
This was a highly satisfying five-day experience overall. I got connected with leaders in the energy industry and gained a wide range of insights from them. Also, I am pleased that I was able to achieve my personal objectives.
