The Institute provides first- through third-year undergraduates with the opportunity to work with faculty on research projects during the summer. In supporting faculty on their research, student research assistants learn the various stages of the research process and techniques to carry out the work—valuable skills that they can bring to future careers. They also gain a deep understanding of critical climate, energy and environmental topics being explored by faculty across the University of Chicago campus.
The research assistant positions last for 10 weeks, and include a stipend. The program does not support independent research.
