LOCATION/TRAVEL: Chicago, IL. Travel as needed for the job (generally 1x per quarter)
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to Manager – Finance and Asset Strategy.
Responsibilities:
• Play a key strategic and analytic role on the MRP team dedicated to optimizing outcomes across the company’s portfolio of power generation assets with an ability to play a central role across internal commercial, operational, accounting and other functional teams as well as senior leadership.
• Develop and maintain complex project and asset financial models that forecast detailed profit and loss, cash flows, and balance sheets
• Develop models and analysis to support and drive commercial, operational and other strategic decisions, e.g., hedging, maintenance.
• Assist in preparing annual budgets, presentations, financial statements and other reporting to lenders, equity, and other counterparties
• Diligence and evaluate opportunities to expand or redevelop existing sites within the portfolio
• Work closely with plant managers and site staff to understand Operations and Maintenance expenses and forward-looking project plans
• Assist with negotiating and executing third-party commercial agreements
• Assist with managing external stakeholders and counterparties as well as compliance with all environmental, regulatory and commercial requirements
• Perform economic research to develop assumptions around commodity price forecasting, asset depreciation, working capital requirements, comparable investment performance, and the impact of governmental requirements/regulations
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS The following demonstrated experience in managing power generation development and project finance is desired:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, engineering, or similar field
• Understanding and implementation of basic financial valuation principles
• Ability to assist in decision making based on various criteria including economic valuation
• Innovative and entrepreneurial mindset, willing to dive into and own projects and analysis
• 2-4 years experience in energy/power generation preferred but not required. E.g., familiarity with wholesale power markets, knowledge of Power Purchase Agreements and hedging products (spark spread swaps, heat rate call options, etc.)
