UChicago’s new Human-Centered Weather Forecasting (HCF) Initiative has several openings for research (postdoc and research scientist), management, and leadership positions. HCF is a pioneering, interdisciplinary initiative to generate high-quality, AI- and physics-based, human-centered weather forecasts, particularly for low- and middle-income countries. HCF’s faculty co-directors are Professors Michael Kremer (Economics), Pedram Hassanzadeh (Climate and AI), and Amir Jina (Climate and Economics). These positions offer a unique opportunity to advance scientific knowledge and its practical applications in a rapidly evolving field and be a part of UChicago’s extensive efforts around climate and AI research, including the AI for Climate Initiative (AICE), Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth, and the Data Science Institute.

We are seeking an Associate Director to manage and advance HCF. In this role, you will oversee strategic partnerships, research integration, proposal writing, and the development of scalable short-term to seasonal forecasting solutions tailored to user needs. You will collaborate with scientists, policymakers, and development practitioners to push the AI research frontier and support the generation of forecasts that drive resilience and climate adaptation. The ideal candidate has experience in climate services, international development, and project management, with a proven ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary initiatives. Part-time positions (as consultants) focused on aspects of the Associate Director responsibilities are also available. Interested candidates should send a CV, cover letter, a writing sample, and references to ortizriomalo@uchicago.edu with the subject line: “Expression of interest, associate director/consultant, HCF.”

We encourage you to submit an application even if the deadline has passed. Direct all questions to ortizriomalo@uchicago.edu.
